70's Porn and 80's Hip Hop...

70's Porn and 80's Hip Hop........This was my weekend.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting I picked up the book I, Goldstein by Al Goldstein. It only took me two sittings to finish this book (quick read) but I really enjoyed it. Having only been exposed to Al Goldstein from the Howard Stern show I didn't really understand the scope of his popularity in the 70's to the 90's. I dug the reprinted interviews, I enjoyed the commentary on subjects like the John Holmes "wonderland" killings but int he end was more interested in what is going on in his life now, today, since his empire is lost and he is essentially homeless I would've liked to hear more about that....but I guess that could be book #2. Also I thought it was cool to hear stories of people who are helping out with money and living conditions. He speaks glowingly of people like Penn Jillette and Howard Stern who are looking after him and I think that is cool since Howard at least gets a bad rap as a guy who is only interested in himself etc.

One thing that I found really interesting in the book was his opinion that porn today is horrible and the best porn was made in the 70's when girls were natural and didn't look bored. He went on to say that porn has diluted their own product by over-producing films. In the 70's there would be a new feature every two to three weeks and now there is one every two to three hours...........just figured I would throw this little business lesson.

Since I am still on this 80's Hip Hop kick I watched the doc The Freshest Kids about the kids and people who actually invented Hip Hop and by Hip Hop I am talking about the Music (Kool Herc), The Dancing (breaking etc) and the Culture of it all (The styles and Graffiti Art). The core of this film is that Hip Hop is a billion dollar enterprise now and the people who created it from nothing are not getting any credit....or money. Interesting film and it moved me to Google some of these folks to see what they are up to now.

On a similar topic (well sorta) I have a funny feeling that a pair of Nike Air Force Ones that I bought on EBay may be fakes. This bums me out because they are my favorite pair. I noticed on the weekend that the color on the side of the sole is wearing off and I am not sure if I will ever wear them again. I know this sounds silly but I am all about authentic brands and don't want to sport knockoffs. I feel the same way about music and films. I don't download stuff without paying for it. Not sure what I am going to do about this.

oh ya and I went to the zoo and saw a zebra!
